Islam Newsroom - "Can Muslim Women Be Leaders?"

Question: "Is it true, that our prophet, salla lahu alayhi was salam, said, "Women cannot be leaders?"

Answer: "Allahu 'Alim. Only Allah Knows for sure about anything. However, there is nothing exactly like what you offered in translation from English to Arabic.

Regarding the Hadeeth of the Prophet, peace be upon him, stating: "The curse is on the nation that has a woman leading it."

Umar, the second Leader of the Muslims, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “Do not be excessive in the dowry of women.”

Just then, a Muslim woman spoke up for all to hear, “It is no so, O Umar! Because Allah said: 'You gave one of them a great amount.'” (4:20).

Umar said, “Indeed, the woman has disputed Umar and she has defeated him.”

Another understanding,  "The woman is right and the man is wrong.
