Lanterns in Ramadan
On the first night of Ramadan, a Muslim
family set up a table and gave out lanterns.
People were coming home after work.
They looked like they were very tired.
They saw the Muslims and their lanterns.
Green. Gold. Red.
Soft lights glowed in all.
A sign on a table said . . .
FREE RAMADAN LANTERNS
Take One, And Share
THE LIGHT!
People slowed down. A boy asked,
“What's Ramadan?”
A Muslim smiled, giving him
a lantern. He told the boy:
"Ramadan is a month of fasting!
We don't eat food in the day!
We want to be better Muslims!
More kindness. More patience!
More Worship of God!
The boy held on to the lantern..
“It’s for me?”
“Yes,” said the man, “A gift.”
Soon more people gathered ~
A delivery man. A Lady. A student.
Each person received a lantern.
The lady looked surprised
“Are you giving these away?”
A Muslim woman answered her,
“Ramadan is about the light of
One God ~ and His Blessings”
As it grew darker, lanterns were
glowing brightly everywhere!
Lanterns where on doors, in shops,
on windows, in kitchens, in living
rooms, and even in cars!
People smiled at each other and a
boy holding, his lantern proudly and
said to his father . .
"Look at street it's like a celebration."
His father nodded.
“Yes. Good Muslims SHARE The light.”
It means (in English):
(Surrender, Obey, in Sincerity, Peace with God)
