CLARENCE, N.Y. (AP) -- A man who lives less than a mile from where a commuter plane hit a house says the "whole sky was lit up orange."
He says then "there was a big bang, and the house shook" - Dworak says there were "50 to 100 foot flames and a pile of rubble."
Witness Tony Tatro said he knew the plane was in trouble, but he says "it was not spiraling at all."
Bob Dworak said, "Residents of the neighborhood near the Buffalo, N.Y. airport are used to planes rumbling overhead". But he says one sounded louder than usual Thursday, sputtered and made some odd noises.
The crash of the Continental Connection plane killed all 48 people on the plane and one on the ground.
