When Someone Dies In Islam
A Simple Guide For Everyone
1. At The Moment Of Death
Stay calm. Remember Allah.
Say:
"Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajiun"
Indeed, we belong to Allah, and to Him we return.
If possible:
• Gently remind them to say the shahadah
• Make dua for ease
• Close their eyes after death
• Cover the body respectfully
2. Inform Family And Community
Let others know quickly.
Islam encourages:
• Quick burial
• Community support
• Visiting the family
Keep words simple and sincere.
3. Washing The Body (Ghusl)
The body is washed with care and respect.
• Same gender performs washing
• Clean the body gently
• Use simple water and soap
• Keep dignity at all times
4. Shrouding (Kafan)
Wrap in simple white cloth.
• No luxury
• No display
• Equal for rich and poor
A reminder: we return to Allah with nothing.
5. Janazah Prayer
A special prayer for the deceased.
• No bowing or سجود
• دعا for forgiveness
• الجماعة (group) is important
6. Burial
Bury as soon as possible.
• Place body on right side
• Facing the Qiblah
• Simple grave
Say:
"Bismillah wa ala millati rasulillah"
7. After Burial
Make dua for them.
This continues:
• Ask Allah for mercy
• Give charity on their behalf
• Continue good deeds in their name

Death is not the end.
