"Are pictures, photos & images Halal or Haram?"
This question is something very important today:
Halal wal Haram
(Permissible and Forbidden)
For centuries, many Muslims said pictures are Haram!
Not because people are unimportant. Because Prophet ﷺ said so.
Some folks don't realize great Muslim scholars, of Muslim Spain and the wider Islamic world did not want pictures, portraits, or paintings of themselves.
Not because they'er gloomy or anti-social.
They are following the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
In the Resitation of Allah (Quran), it says it very clear:
"Say, [O Muhammad], "If you love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.".
Allah orders us to follow the messenger.
"Say, 'Obey Allah and the Messenger.' But if they turn away –
then indeed, Allah does not like the disbelievers."
Today the world is flooded with images of:
- Muslim babies torn apart
- Women screaming
- Children bleeding
- Homes, Masjids, Churches, Hospitals - blown away
Suddenly, nobody objects to “images of Muslims."
Can you guess WHY?
Images serve power, propaganda, and control.
Allowed when they dehumanize Muslims?
Broadcasted when they numb the world?
Promoted when they justify violence?
But images of dignity, joy, scholarship, and faith?
Those are what make some people uncomfortable.
Now we are touching a deep truth:
Pictures of suffering are used to break the spirit.
Pictures of faith and dignity are used to restore it.
And Islam has always known this.
Maybe it’s why Prophet ﷺ did not want images to become idols — but he also dosen't want hia people ERASED.
News shows images of Muslims they are:
Dying
Fleeing
Bleeding
Grieving
They never show images when we are:
Smiling
Learning
Building
Worshiping
