Adam & the Tree

Adam ﷺ and the Forbidden Tree

Allah created Adam ﷺ with His own Hands — shaping him from the clay of the earth, forming him perfectly, and breathing into him of His Spirit.

Angels were commanded to bow down to Adam, not as worship, but in respect to the one whom Allah had honored. All bowed — except Iblis, who was proud and refused.

Allah placed Adam and his wife Hawwa (Eve) in Paradise, where they lived in peace, surrounded by blessings beyond imagination. Allah told them clearly:

“O Adam! Dwell, you and your wife, in the Garden, and eat freely from wherever you will — but do not approach this tree, or you will be among the wrongdoers.”

(ReciteQuran.com/2:35)

Notice — Allah didn’t just forbid eating from it, He said “do not approach it.” That shows the wisdom of staying far from what may lead to disobedience.

Then Iblis whispered to them both, saying,

“Your Lord only forbade you this tree so that you would not become angels or live forever.”

(ReciteQuran.com/7:20)

Tempted by the deception, they tasted from it. As soon as they did, their innocence was uncovered — their inner peace shaken. They covered themselves with leaves, ashamed of what they had done.

But here lies the beauty of Adam’s story — he immediately turned back. He didn't blame Eve (Hawwa). He made a mistake. Then both Adam ﷺ & Hawwa cried out to Allah:

رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْ‌حَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ

“Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.”

(ReciteQuran.com/7:23)

And Allah, The Most Merciful, accepted their repentance.
He sent them down to earth — not as punishment, but as part of His divine plan. He told them and their descendants:

“From it (the earth) you will live, and on it you will die, and from it you will be brought forth once again.”

(ReciteQuran.com/7:25)

Adam ﷺ learned from his mistake and became the first Prophet, teaching his children the words of guidance and repentance.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

All the children of Adam make mistakes, and the best of those who make mistakes are those who repent.”

[Say, "Astagfir Allah" (I repent to Allah)]

(Tirmidhi)
