Smile!

A Forgotten Sunnah?

A Muslim, full of anger, went to a scholar, intending to give the him a harsh lecture about his views. He started shouting at him. Then he became calm and even smiled.

What did the scholar do to change the brother Muslim’s attitude? He just smiled!

When we give dawah, a simple smile in the face of the aggressor is all we need.

Smiling is contagious!

When sharing with someone, a smile is more important than the length of your beard or your pants.

Brings people closer to you

Anas, radiallahu anhu, when he looked at the Prophet, peace be upon him, he saw his face as bright as full moon. He, peace be upon him, when he looked at Anas, he smiled.

Every time they met there was a smile on his face. This was affection displayed when meeting any of the companions, radiallahum anh.

A smile gives the feeling of affection and acceptance. All people want to feel accepted.

Our prophet, peace be upon him, was beloved to most of the people of his time, because he always met them with a smile.

One of his companions said, “I didn’t see anyone smiling more that the prophet, peace be upon him.

Charity

One of the famous sayings of our prophet, peace be upon him, was “A smile in the face of your brother is an act of charity.”

Charity is giving — and a smile gives people, a welcome, unconditional warmth, regardless of wealth, class, status, or position. This is something Muslims are supposed to do with all Muslims — Give charity, even if it’s a smile.

Smiles result in happiness and understanding for all, regardless of language, social status - It’s universal.

Helps to change attitudes

Smiles have effects on people and their situations. Show others you care about them, their ups and downs. Smiles change all of us from sad to happy, discontent to heart-felt acceptance.

A smile can affect all of us. Try it.

He Frowned?

Allah Almighty, once scolded prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, for frowning.

Surah Abasa in Quran records this important messsage.

A blind man came up to the prophet, peace be upon him, to ask a question. But he was busy, trying to get leaders of his tribe to enter Islam. Although the blind man could not see him frown or turn away — Allah made a big deal out of it, one that would be with us until the Last Day.
