What Drives People to Lie?
Here’s a breakdown of the engines behind untruth — and yes, they usually ride in these wagons:
1. Willpower (Misused)
“I knew it was wrong, but I did it anyway.”
-
When the will chooses to cover the truth (kufr), it’s no longer ignorance — it’s rebellion.
-
Lying becomes a choice when truth is inconvenient.
2. Ego
“I can't be wrong. I must win.”
-
Ego makes folks defend their image even if it means bending the truth.
-
Iblis (shaytan) refused to bow — not because he didn’t believe, but because of pride.
3. Hidden Motives
“What they don’t know can’t hurt me…”
-
Lies are often tools of manipulation — to get power, money, praise, or control.
-
Think of Pharaoh, hiding the truth about Musa (peace be upon him).
4. Payoff & Profit
“If I say this, I get paid.”
-
Bribes, deals, or saving face before a boss — all of it can buy silence or deception.
-
The Qur’an warns against selling the truth for a cheap price:
“And do not exchange My verses for a small price.” (2:41)
5. Fear
“If I tell the truth, I’ll lose my job, my reputation, my life.”
-
Fear of loss leads many to twist the truth or stay silent when truth needs to be said.
6. Guilt
“If they find out what I did...”
-
Some lie to cover sins, fearing judgment from others — instead of repentance before Allah.
7. Temptation
“Just one little lie to get what I want.”
-
Shaytan decorates lies with sweet promises.
-
If you take the bait - the hook’s already in.
Quran Confirms This:
“So do not incline toward those who do wrong, lest the Fire touches you…”
(Surah Hud 11:113 – )
“Woe to those who write the Book with their own hands and then say, ‘This is from Allah.’”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:79 – )
Lies dressed up as righteous, convenient, or necessary — are one of these seven traps.

🪵 Cowboy Sayings
“Lies don’t grow from dirt —
they grow from desire.”
Think about it . .
“Truth don’t pay much money —
— but it can save your soul.”
