Jesus Prayed on Gethsemane
- in all the S Gospels, yes?
✅ Matthew 26:36–46
“Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, ‘Sit here, while I go over there and pray.’”
(Read especially verses 36–39)
He fell on his face and prayed, saying:
“O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as You will.”
✅ Mark 14:32–42
“They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Sit here while I pray.’”
✅ Verse 36: “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”
✅ Luke 22:39–46
“He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed...”
Now here’s the verse I find interesting, because of all his praying and suffering:
✅ Luke 22:44
“And being in agony, he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.”
✅ All the Gospels, even the Gospel of John (18:1) mention the garden of Gethsemane. John does not describe the prayers of Jesus in detail. It quickly transitions to Jesus being taken by soldiers.
Question: "Who did Jesus Pray TO?"
Did Jesus get his prayers answered?
"And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, "O, my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me - never the less, not as I will, but as You Will."
Matthew 26:39 (KJV)
This verse is very significant for several reasons:
-
He prays to God — not to himself.
-
He distinguishes between his will and God’s Will.
-
He asks to be saved from what’s coming (“let this cup pass from me”). This shows he did not want to die on the cross — this contradicts Paul’s statements, "Jesus came to die for sins."
-
He submits to God’s Will — perfectly in line with Islam’s meaning: submission to the Will of Almighty God (Allah).
Were Jesus prayers answered?
Islam says . . .YES!
But why would somebody pray to Jesus,
. . if he can't get his prayers answered?
