Riyadh, KSA - Saturday December 10, 2011 -- Dr. Jafar Sheikh Idris has again suffered from complications from previous strokes 3 months back.
He was first hospitalized in October when he had lost ability to communicate, for a while last month he was doing much better, Al Hamdulillah. He spoke to us on the phone from his home in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and joked around a bit with us. Dr. Idris asked us to convey his thanks to all who were so kind to make dua for him and after praising Allah, he said, "Thanks to all who read about me on your news program and made dua'"
The sheikh could hardly move his hands or legs and at one point could not talk at all. At first they were worried his mind might be affected by the stroke as well. Doctors were as much surpised as anyone would be, seeing such a remarkable recovery in such a short period of time.
But now, we just received word from Riyadh, our beloved sheikh is now back in the hospital and this time we are beggin Allah to grant him cure (shifa) and tawfiq (success) and grant the family sabr (patience). May Allah help them all in this difficult time, ameen.
As one of the first scholars of Islam to debut on television many years ago, Dr. Idris accepted the advise of the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia at that time, Abdul Aziz Bin Baz, who told him it was necessary to appear on TV in order to get this message out to the people. Ordinarily the conservative position of Saudi scholars of that time would have been to refrain from making such presentations of television. However, after realizing the importance of such an undertaking, Dr. Jafar Idris accepted the challange and showed the audience at that time, the peaceful and tolerant way of true Muslims, at the advise of former mufti of Saudi, Abdulaziz bin Baz, may Allah have Mercy on him.
Dr. Jaafar Sheikh Idris is considered one of few Muslim Scholars of this era who comprehended the knowledge of Islam and Western Ideologies. He has authored many articles and research papers. He has also visited many countries around the world where he lectured in Arabic and English.
