QUESTION: What Happens When We Die?
ANSWER: WE LIVE ON
Death — Step by Step
1. The soul leaves the body
At death, the soul is taken out by angels.
- For Believers: Gently.
- For Rejecters: Harshly.
The Real Life (not the end).
Between this World & Resurrection.
2. The Barzakh (life in the grave)
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
- Two angels (Munkar & Nakir) arrive, to ask 3 Questions:a
- “Man Rabbuka?” (Who is your Lord?)
- “Maa Deenuka?” (What is your Religion?)
- “Man Nabiyyuka?” (Who is your prophet?)
For the Believers:
- The grave becomes wide and peaceful.
- A door to Jannah is shown.
- Good deeds appear as a companion.
For the Rejectors:
- Confusion. Tightness. A door to Hellfire opens.
Until the Day of Judgment.
Day of Resurrection:
3. Yawm al-Qiyamah
Every soul returns to its body, and stands before Allah.
No lawyers. No excuses. No injustice.
Every atom of good and evil is accounted for.
Deeds — Good or Bad:
4. The Scale and the Record
- Deeds are Weighed & Records are given:
- Right hand: (Successful)
- Left hand: (or behind the back): Losers.
Bridge Over Hell
5. Sirat (The Bridge)
Bridge over Hellfire, everyone will cross.
- Some cross like lightning — Some crawl — Others fall.
Eternity
6. The Final Home
- Jannah: Eternal peace, nearness to Allah, no pain, no loss.
- Jahanum: Eternal punishment for those rejecting truth knowingly.
Basic Truth of Death
It does NOT end awareness. It removes the Veil.
Prophet ﷺ said, “A grave is either:
- A Garden from the gardens of Paradise —
- Or a Pit from the pits of Hell.”
People of Goodness
Any person known for belief in One God, kindness, humility, and truth — is not forgotten by Allah.
If they die on the belief in the One God, then what comes next is better than what was left behind, inshallah.
