So Many Sins
She Won't Admit

Bismillah - Salam alaykum,
Someone asked about forgiveness for the one who has too many bad deeds and will not admit them.

Sheikh, we know a girl who says she did so much sin and bad deeds, she thinks there is no way for Allah to forgive them.

We told her she must confess her sins and ask Allah to forgive her. But she says she doesn't want to admit all she did and hurt her parents and some others.

Plus we think she is not able to own up to all of what she did. Allah Knows best what she did anyways and she should just say it all and get it over with then Allah might forgive her, right?

This girl goes to college and she should know better.

Please sheikh, can you tell her to confess everything she did and make taubah (repent) to Allah?

We told her if she doesn't confess all of this right now and do her taubah, she is going to Hell and Allah is not going to forgive her. Right?
(your brother in Islam)

First of all, thank you brother for your comments and your ideas and for taking the time to write and share your opinion with us.

Part of what you say is true and part is not right.

As for what is right, all of us make make taubah (repent) for our sins to Almighty God. This is well established and all of us must realize the importance of repentence.

As far as the part where you are not correct I want you to see what Islam says about this.

Here is a beautiful story about the "Maghfirah of Allah" (Forgiveness of God) from the people of Moses alayhis salam, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him:

In the days of Musa, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, that while he was wandering with the Children of Israel in the desert, there was a serious dry spell that had occurred. Musa, peace and blessings be upon him, along with this followers all raised their hands and lifted their heads toward the sky, invoking Allah tobless them with rain from the few scattered clouds floating above.
Then to the amazement of everyone observing, those few clouds disappeared from the sky, the heat increased and the dry spell became much worse than ever.
Allah Almighty revealed to Musa, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, there was a bad person among them who had many sins and he had been disobeying Allah Subhannah wa Ta'ala for over 40 years.
Allah told Musa, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, "Let him leave the congregation. Only then will I cause the rain to shower down upon all of you."
So Musa, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, cried out to all the people, "There is someone among you who has been disobeying Allah for 40 years! Let him separate from us and not until he does will we be saved from this drought."
The man was waiting, looking around and hoping someone else might step up, but none did so. He began to sweat heavily from his forehead for he knew he was the man Musa spoke about.
He knew if he continued to remain amongst the people, they would all die of thirst but if he stepped out, he would be totally humiliated for all time.
Raising his hands where he stood, and with a sincerity within him he had never experienced before, and humility never before felt, and with tears streaming down both sides of his face, he cried, "Yaa Allah, have Rahmah (Mercy) on me!
Yaa Allah (O God), cover my sins! Yaa Allah, Yaa Allah - Ighfirli! (Forgive me!) Ighfirli! Yaa Allah!"
Musa, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, and all the people of the Children of Israel kept waiting for someone to step forward, but no one did.
Suddenly, the clouds returned heavier than ever and the sky began to pour down the rain. Musa, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, asked Allah Subhannah wa Ta'ala (Almighty God, Glorified and Most High), "Yaa Allah, you have blessed us with the rain, even though the sinner never came forward. And Allah Ta'ala, replied to Musa, "Yaa Musa, it is because of the repentance of that exact person, that I have blessed all of Bani Israil (Children of Isreal) with this water."
Musa, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, wanted to know who this person was and said, "Yaa Allah, show me this man!"
Allah Ta'ala answered him, "Yaa Musa, I have covered his sins for 40 years, do you think, after all this and he has just repented to me, I would expose him now?"

Brothers and sisters in Islam, our bad deeds only become worse when we show them to others. Confessing in public and telling others about what we did in our so-called "days of jahaliyah" (ignorance), is not correct in Islam.

When a person repents of sin, talking about it afterward is another type of sin and exposes what Allah Ta'ala had covered for us.
Our prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, told us about the one who reveals their sins to others after they have repented to Allah:

"On the Day of Judgment, how will Allah conceal your sins when you have torn away the covering?'"

Brothers and sisters in Islam, let us never despair of the Mercy and Forgiveness of our Lord and our only Savior, Allah. He is most ready to Forgive us today, as He forgave those before us.
The only condition he holds is for us to be totally sincere in our repentance to Him, alone - without partners.
