| MEDINA COUNTY, Ohio - June 6 -- Folks here were shocked this morning when the first ever of its kind, 3.0 magnitude earthquake struck right here in this part of Ohio So if you or anyone you know, felt something shaking in Medina County Sunday morning, you were not alone. The Ohio Seismic Network confirmed that an earthquake, approximately 3.0 in magnitude struck about 11:30 a.m. The Burbank City Police received a number of calls from local folks who say their homes shook and reported a gas line may have ruptured or possibly an explosion. Seismologists determined the epicenter of the earthquake to have occured just 3 miles NNE from West Salem, Ohio. Until now there have been no reports of any major injuries or serious damage. |
(Medina) - A 2.6 earthquake hit Medina County this morning. Reports sayt it was felt over a wide area of the county from Lodi into Wayne County. He doubts there was any damage. This is the first ever recorded earthquake in Medina County, but says not to worry. It may not happen again for a hundred years or more. Small harmless earthquakes are not uncommon in Ohio and occur all over the state. On May 17th, there was an earthquake centered in northeast Ohio. It wasn’t huge, but it was the first one ever centered in the Youngstown area. On June 23, 2010, a 5.0-magnitude earthquake occurred on the border of Ontario and Quebec was felt across Ohio. Shockwaves from the temblor were felt in downtown Columbus and Dayton. |
