as salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatu__in case you are not aware there is a muslim deaf[censored]a nization in the d.c. metro area, Global Deaf Muslim. it has been in existence approximately five years. they have a number of programs that they are trying to implement. their major project at this time is developing the Quran in American Sign Language (asl). they have been having ongoing fundraisers around the country to raise money for this project. ultimately the Quran would be on dvd with the words of Allah in asl. their second major project is an international Muslim deaf conference in Doha, Qatar at the end of this year. the president of GDM is Nashiru Abdulai, the main GDM office is in northern virginia. i am a current board member of GDM. if there is anyone who is interested in wording with GDM and supporting these major projects please contact me via email. thank you

It would be great if a site was set up having a list of videos that new subtitling, along with some guides on how to create subtitles. This way anyone that had the time could assign themselves a video to transcribe, then upload the work for it to be combined with the original video.

Assalamualikum. I am really glad that we are at least beginning to raise awareness on this topic, but we are still behind, way behind. Having taken sign language classes through high school and sharing a good relationship with my sign language teacher who is also Deaf, I have come to appreciate the Deaf culture. I know the proper ways to talk to them and though I am not fluent in signing I wish to be one day, Insha Allah. My point in writing this is that we are severely lacking in providing accommodations for our deaf people and people with other things like being blind or in a wheelchair. We need to have signing interpreters at our lectures, have headphones for our hard of hearing and subtitles in our recorded lectures. Please let me know how I can help, Insha Allah. May Allah bless the ummat and ease the affairs of those in hardship. Let\'s make Islam accessible to all the people it\'s their right and our obligation!

I have always felt the need to support and defend rights of all people everywhere - especially when it comes to their right to hear the message of true Islam. Who will join along with me and help get this message out to the general public? We need more than a few casual Muslims occasionally making dua for this project. We need activists who will clearly speak out and step up to the plate and give their time and money to make a difference! Who is with me on this project? Write to me now - contact@guideus.tv
