Fatemeh - I would like to answer your question, as I do interviews and hire people. First, if they are a professional, they will not be offended by your refusal to shake hands. Second, I had an interview today with a Muslim gentleman and when I extended my hand, he gave the most polite response I have ever heard. He said,

I was hoping for a little advice. I have just started teaching Muslim adults from Africa and the middle east. The classes are fairly small and I like to encorage group work and having sudent talk o a varity of people. Some of the ladies in burqas will happily sit next to men and talk away; some of the ladies in Hijabs wont even sit next to men and there just doesn't seem to be any clearly defined rules to follow.Noone seems offended when I ask them to do something that theyre not comfortable with. They just let me know and we work around it but there must be some ryme or reason to all this. Anyone have any advice and can maybe explain? Thanks in advance @ Sarah I'll come live in the girl country! Sounds fun

Please make a separate country for just men and another one for girls and women. The country women rule would be peacful and safe. Men make stupid rules, why must I cover-up in a tent or just be jailed at home, just because of stupid men. Sarah age 10

Women should not be bothered by any man regardless of her religion. It is not decent for men to go around touching and feeling of ladies. If the women is a Muslim then it is wrong for her to allow men to touch her, I think. But you should ask a scholar.

Asalaam Alaikum, Alhamdulillah I found my answer. I am a recent convert to Islam and this question has been bothering me, I feel a conviction in my heart NOT to shake hands with non Muslims, however, I am searching for employment and when out on an interview the first thing the man does is extend his hand. I am afraid to offend them and not get employment but I feel guilty when I do allow them to shake my hand. I really need help on how to refuse diplomatically. Sisters who refuse, I say Subhaana ALLAH that the CREATOR has given you strength to do the right thing. I need any guidance I can from Imam and my Sisters.
