When Quran was revealed, the Arabic language was at its peak in richness, poetic value, literature, etc. Quran came and challenged the best literature in Arabic, the best poetry in Arabic of the time. Mohammad (peace be upon him) being illiterate couldn't possibly have come up with something so immaculate that it even exceeded the best of poetry, and literature in Arabic at the time of the language's PEAK development. An illiterate man is simply not capable of writing such a book. __Mohammad (peace be upon him) had no reason to come up with something like Quran, and cause the entire society of Arabia to become his enemy. Why would he do something like that? Why would he write something going against almost all of the norms of the society, and lose his family, relatives, friends, and other loved ones, and not to mention all the wealth he lost. __ Quran was revealed over a period of 23 years. Is it possible for someone to maintain the same exact style of Arabic speech as demonstrated in Quran?

1. What do you believe about the rapture/ last days? I think we agree we are in the final hours (no one knows but God). 2. God is sovereign. God is the Judge. If it is for God to judge, why then is it necessary for mere mortals to engage in jihad? Why not allow those choose to remain in darkness to stay there until God judges their hearts. Why would God require humans to strong arm them into a worship they would only do out of fear death?

EDITOR TO AKHILA (above): Here is some tafsir (explanation) for your question regarding surah #9 At-Taubah's first 5 verses. This is taken from website: [censored][cens ored]qtafsir.co m/index.php?opt ion=com_content &task=view&id=2 585&Itemid=64 This honorable Surah (chapter 9) was one of the last Surahs to be revealed to the Messenger of Allah . Al-Bukhari recorded that Al-Bara' said, The last Ayah to be revealed was: 'They ask you for a legal verdict. Say: 'Allah directs (thus) about Al-Kalalah.') 4:176 But the last Surah to be revealed was Bara'ah. The Basmalah (words that normally begin every chapter) was not mentioned in the beginning of this Surah because the Companions did not write it in the complete copy of the Qur'an (Mushaf) they collected, following the Commander of the faithful, 'Uthman bin 'Affan, may Allah be pleased with him. The first part of this honorable Surah was revealed to the Messenger of Allah when he returned from the battle of Tabuk, during the Hajj season, which the Prophet thought about attending. But he remembered that the idolators (enemies) would still attend that Hajj, as was usual in past years, and that they perform Tawaf around the House while naked. He disliked to associate with them and sent Abu Bakr As-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, to lead Hajj that year and show the people their rituals, commanding him to inform the idolators that they would not be allowed to participate in Hajj after that season. He commanded him (Abu Bakr) to proclaim: 'Freedom from (all) obligations (is declared) from Allah and His Messenger to the people' When Abu Bakr had left, the Messenger sent Ali bin Abu Talib to be the one to deliver this news to the idolators on behalf of the Messenger, because he was the Messenger's cousin. Verses continue: 'To those of the Mushrikin [pagan idolators], with whom you made a treaty. So travel freely (Mushrikin) for four months (as you will) throughout the land) 9:1-2 This Ayah (verse) refers to idolators who had indefinite treaties and those, whose treaties with Muslims ended in less than four months. The terms of these treaties were restricted to four months only. As for those whose term of peace ended at a specific date later (than the four months), then their treaties would end when their terms ended, no matter how long afterwards, for Allah said: So fulfill their treaty for them until the end of their term. 9:4 So whoever had a coventant with Allah's Messenger then it would last until its period expired, this was reported from Muhammad bin Ka`b Al-Qurazi and others. We will also mention a Hadith on this matter. Abu Ma`shar Al-Madani said that Muhammad bin Ka`b Al-Qurazi and several others said, 'The Messenger of Allah sent Abu Bakr to lead the Hajj rituals on the ninth year (of Hijrah). He also sent `Ali bin Abi Talib with thirty or forty Ayat from Bara'ah (At-Tawbah), and he recited them to the people, giving the idolators four months during which they freely move about in the land. He recited these Ayat on the day of `Arafah (ninth of Dhul-Hijjah). The idolators were given twenty more days (till the end) of Dhul-Hijjah, Muharram, Safar, Rabi` Al-Awwal and ten days from Rabi` Ath-Thani. He proclaimed to them in their camping areas, `No Mushrik will be allowed to perform Hajj after this year, nor a naked person to perform Tawaf around the House.' So Allah said: And a declaration from Allah and His Messenger to mankind on the greatest day of Hajj that Allah is free from obligations to the Mushrikin and so is His Messenger. So if you repent, it is better for you, but if you turn away, then know that you cannot escape Allah. And give tidings of a painful torment for those who disbelieve' The verses here all deal with a specific time, place, situation and people - who were enemies to the Muslims while they lived in Makkah and who had abused and kill them. So, it was only about how to treat those who had violated a well known treaty and who were going to be attacking the believers when they came for their pilgrimage. (more of the explanation is on the website): [censored][cens ored]qtafsir.co m/index.php?opt ion=com_content &task=view&id=2 585&Itemid=64

Thank you (no name) for your comments. We would like to invite you to reread the text of the story here, please._Here is an outline to follow: 1. The Quran means 'Recital' 2. It was recited to Muhammad, peace be upon him by Gabriel 3. Muhammad, peace be upon him, recited it to his companions. 4. Muhammad, peace be upon him, did not know how to read or write. 5. Muhammad, peace be upon him, did not make it up on his own, he did not read it from some other manuscript and he did not write it down. 6. Muhammad, peace be upon him, did ask some of his companions to write it down as well as memorize it 7. People who heard the Quran from Muhammad, peace be upon him, memorized it and passed it on to the next generations the same way, from hearing and reciting 8. We do have some of the original texts that were written by the hand of those very early Muslims who did hear it themselves from Muhammad, peace be upon him_Thank you for your comments. Hope we were able to help you better understand.

FROM THE EDITOR TO CHARBEL - Thank you for a nice question about our article about 'Did Muhammad Write the Quran?' Abu Kathir was the author of this answer. The subject was whether or not the prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, actually fabricated or made up the Quran. As such, the question was whether or not Muhammad, peace be upon him, actually made up the Quran or fabricated it himself and then wrote it down. Of course, we as Muslims know that would have been impossible because he neither knew how to read or write. He heard the Quran coming to him from the angel Gabriel (Jibril in Arabic) and then he shared it with his companions by mouth to ear and they continued this same process from one generation on to the next, mouth to ear. Even so, this is the way it is still taught these days. However, there were some of the companions who did write down what was heard and they did preserve it and then these pages were later copied to make the first book forms of what was being recited as Quran. Some of the earliest manuscripts are the originals from companions who actually sat and listened to prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, recite the Quran to them. Al Hamdlillah, and praise be to Almighty Allah, that we do still have the original in the recited and the written forms. We are sorry you did not understand the question and hope this helped you to better understand about Islam. Thank you again for a nice question.

I am a devout Christian and believe in one God. I do not claim to know much about Islam and Mohammed. It wasn't until recently that I began learning more about the subject due to a college course. From my understanding it seems like there are some uncanny parallels between Jesus and Mohammed while he was in Mecca. From what I read they both very much wanted peace and for all people to believe in the one God. However, it seems that following the Hijra to Madina he changed radically and became more of a ruler rather than a teacher. Again from what I have read, it seems once he gained power by uniting the Aws and Khazraj tribes he took a more ruthless turn in his life. I have also read the Al Qaeda assassination manual and many of Mohammed's recitations are used in the manual to justify killing of anyone who doesn't adhere to Islam. I am just curious if you could lend some insight as to why Mohammed went from such a peaceful loving prophet to a military ruler with a religious ideology? Thank you and if I offended you in any way it was unintentional.

COMMENTS FROM A NON-MUSLIMS WITH ANSWERS IN 'CAPS'::: (at the time of mohammed, were not the majority of scribes Jews?) Jews did not live in Makkah. Madinah was where many of them were. (Would it not be highly probable that a Jew helped write the Koran?) NO. BECAUSE QURAN IS NOT WRITTEN - IT IS RECITED - THE WORD 'QURAN' MEANS 'Recitation' IN ENGLISH. (And were not those Jewish scribes his slaves?) NO, SORRY AGAIN. PLEASE NAME ANY JEWISH SLAVES IF YOU ARE SO TRUE. (During his life were not the best scribes Jews?) AGAIN, THE POINT IS - QURAN MEANS 'RECITATION' AND THE ARABS WERE THE VERY BEST RECITERS - THAT IS HOW THEY KNEW FOR SURE NO HUMAN COULD HAVE MADE IT UP! (If an illiterate brute like mohammed want to control an army to conquer the world would he not use the best scribe?) FOR SOMEONE WHO USES THE WORD 'TRUTH' IN THEIR NAME, YOU ARE NOT DOING TOO GOOD WITH THE TRUTH. PROPHET MUHAMMAD WAS 'ILLITERATE' (meaning he could not read or write) BUT HE WAS NOT ANYTHING CLOSE TO A 'BRUTE' AND HE WAS NOT OUT TO 'CONQUER THE WORLD' AS YOU SAY. HE WAS SENT AS A 'MERCY TO ALL' AND HE OFFERED PEOPLE A WAY TO CONNECT TO THEIR LORD THROUGH SUBMISSION, SURRENDER, OBEDIENCE, SINCERITY AND PEACE - THESE WORDS ALL TOGETHER ONLY MEANS ONE THING IN ARABIC = ISLAM!
