'Temporary Marriage?'
'Beat Yourself?'

We received this letter from someone who has learned some things from the Shiite Religion of Iran, but he is afraid because of their beliefs:

OK. i have some questions about islam. what if i like idea of only One God Allah and believe Mohamed a prophet - but i don't like marriage for temporary and I don't want to beat myself with a whip?
Here's my qeustions - cause somebody told me not to go islam because of these 2 things..

(a) One is the temporary nikkah, which has limits for hours, weeks and months. In others words (zawaj al muttah) in TV I hear a shiah scholar said this thing in the Quran and read some ayat . But i also read that prophet (pbuh) do not allow us to do that. What you say about this.

(b) In (the month of Muharram),some people beat themselves. Whether or not it is wrong.

these things seems really violent and unfair to women. Please help me to know more about Islam and what it says... I want to know really...

Bismillah Rahman Raheem

Your Question :
In a message dated 7/10 11:29:27 AM Eastern Standard Time, writes:

(a) One is the temporary nikkah, which has limits for hours, weeks and months. In others words "(zawaj al muttah)" in TV I hear a shiah scholar said this thing in the Quran and read some ayat . But i also read that prophet (pbuh) do not allow us to do that. What you say about this.

(b) In (the month of Muharram),some people beat themselves. Whether or not it is wrong.

Both of these questions seem to be related to the sect of Islam referred to as 'Shiite'.Thank you for your interest in Islam and the Muslims. It is our duty and privilege to present the truth and proof about Islam and what it represents. We desire to clear up misconceptions and misunderstandings about Islam to help others see the true message that came with all of the prophets from Adam, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad, peace be upon them all. The message is "Laa elaha illa lah" (none has the right to be worshipped except Allah).

Answer:
Bismillah Rahman Raheem, was salat was salam ala rasool al kareem. Allahu 'Alim.

The best way to answer these types of questions is to keep in mind, true Muslims only follow "True Islam."

And Islam is based only on the teachings of Allah in His Book, the Quran and the understanding and explanations of His messenger Muhammad, peace be upon him.

Question #1
Zawaj al Muta' - (marriage of pleasure) this was practiced by the companions themselves without objection from the messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,
UNTIL the battle of Khaibar. It was on that occasion that he did forbid it any longer.

This information comes to us from the hadeeth narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib, cousin of Muhammad, peace be upon him. It is collected in the most famous of sahih hadeeth (authentic narratives) collections, that of Imam Bukhari.

Question #2
Allah tells us in the Quran, no one can take the sins of someone else. Look to the end of surah Baqarah, verses 285 and 286. (No one can take the burden of someone else)

This is not clear thinking to consider Allah would be so unfair as to make innocent people suffer for what the guilty have done. Instead, Allah simply forgives what He wills and allows some of our sins to be forgiven without suffering and pain. And that is one of the reasons He is "Al Rahman, Al Raheem, Al Ghaffur, Al Latif, Al Adil."

After all, the Christians want their sins taken away and given to Jesus, peace be upon him. And the Shiites want to take the sins of their righteous people by beating themselves and this just does not make any sense, does it?

The prophet, peace be upon him, did not allow his companions to ever hurt themselves or anyone else for any occasions such as these.

Before we begin, it is important to begin with the name of Allah and send the prayers and blessings on His last prophet, Muhammad, peace be upon him. (Bismillah Rahman Raheem, was salat was salam ala rasoolulah).
Then it is equally important to mention that it is only Allah who has all Knowledge. (Allahu 'Alim).

Muta' is the act of temporary marriage commonly practiced by Arabs before the coming of Islam. Although the prophet, peace be upon him, did not forbid it in the early years, he did forbid it as we will see before the revelation of Islam was finished. So it is not acceptable for Muslims to practice this kind of relationship. It also does not give women and any children that may arise from such a relationship - their fair rights.
Here is a list of statements from the most reliable sources of Islam - Sahih Al Bukhari and Sahih Muslim:

Sahih Bukhari Volume 5, Book 59, Number 526:
Narrated Ibn Umar:
On the day of Khaibar, Allah's Apostle forbade the eating of garlic and the meat of donkeys.
Volume 5, Book 59, Number 527:
Narrated 'Ali bin Abi Talib:
On the day of Khaibar, Allah's Apostle forbade the Mut'a (i.e. temporary marriage) and the eating of donkey-meat.
Sahih Bukhari Volume 9, Book 86, Number 91:
Narrated Muhammad bin 'Ali:
'Ali was told that Ibn 'Abbas did not see any harm in the Muta marriage. 'Ali said, "Allah's Apostle forbade the Muta marriage on the Day of the battle of Khaibar and he forbade the eating of donkey's meat." Some people said, "If one, by a tricky way, marries temporarily, his marriage is illegal." Others said, "The marriage is valid but its condition is illegal."
Sahih Muslim Book 008, Number 3259:
Rabi' b. Sabra reported on the authority of his father that Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) prohibited the contracting of temporary marriage.
Sahih Muslim Book 008, Number 3260:
Rabi' b. Sabra reported on the authority of his father that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) forbade on the Day of Victory to contract temporary marriage with women. This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Rabi' b. Sabra that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) forbade to contract temporary marriage with women at the time of Victory, and that his father had contracted the marriage for two red cloaks.
Book 021, Number 4763:
'Ali b. Abi Talib reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) forbade on the Day of Khaibar temporary marriage (Muta') with women and the eating of the flesh of domestic asses.
Book 008, Number 3262:
Sabra al-Juhanni reported on the authority of his father: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) prohibited the contracting of temporary marriage and said: Behold, it is forbidden from this very day of yours to the Day of Resurrection, and he who has given something (as a dower) should not take it back.
Book 008, Number 3263:
'Ali b. Abi Talib reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) prohibited on the Day of Khaibar the contracting of temporary marriage with women and the eating of the flesh of domestic asses.
Book 008, Number 3264:
Malik narrated this hadith on the authority of the same chain of transmitters that 'Ali b. Abi Talib said to a person: You are a person led astray; Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) forbade us (to do Mut'a), as is stated In the hadith transmitted on the authority of Yahya b. Malik.
Book 008, Number 3265:
Muhammad b. 'Ali narrated on the authority of his father 'Ali that Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) on the Day of Khaibar prohibited for ever the contracting of temporary marriage and eating of the flesh of the domestic asses.
Book 008, Number 3266:
'Ali (Allah be pleased with him) heard that Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with them) gave some relaxation in connection with the contracting of temporary marriage, whereupon he said: Don't be hasty (in your religious verdict), Ibn 'Abbas, for Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) on the Day of Khaibar prohibited for ever the doing of it-And eating of the flesh of domestic asses.
Book 008, Number 3267:
'Ali (Allah be pleased with him) said to Ibn 'Abbas (Allah be pleased with them) that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) on the Day of Khaibar forbade forever the contracting of temporary marriage and the eating of the flesh of domestic asses.
So it is clear from these hadiths that the act of Muta was forbidden by the prophet Muhammad. So hence it was abrogated and must not be practiced anymore.

Some people say hadiths are contradictory, but actually they are not. The case is very simple, the prophet Muhammad forbade the act of muta' on more than one occasion. For instance, he forbade those who were present at the battle of Khaibar and on another occasion, in front of thousands of the day of the conquest of Makkah.

So muta' was specifically banned on more than one occasion by the prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him and his family.

Shiites? Are you joking? Everyone knows they are not even real Muslims. They hate the khulafah rashidun and they curse the companions of the prophet, peace be upon him, and even curse his wife Ayesha, may Allah be pleased with her.
What kind of religion do you want? Hatred, violence, beating women, beating yourself? Or true Islam which is peace with God in submission to His Will.
They make me sick. May Allah Most High Guide them to truth and open their eyes and ears to reality, ameen.

Thanks for clearing about a burning question. From this article, it is clear that Zawaj al Mutha was allowed earlier but forbidden after Khaibar battle. And thanks for the authentic document/s, so that we can give some reference that it is forbidden.
