A conservative Christian group has chosen South Carolina as its launching point to promote a new documentary warning of the dangers of “radical Islam.” The Virginia-based Christian Action Network has said it would put up billboards Friday in Columbia and Orangeburg with the message “Islam Rising-Be warned.”

Plans for four additional billboards are in the works. Martin Mawyer, the group’s president, said it chose South Carolina for the billboards because the site is home to Holy Islamville, a Muslim village in York founded by Sheikh Mubarik Ali Gilani (sufi).

Villagers say the settlement is a peaceful place of introspection and worship that welcomes people of all faiths (who want to come and see the purported miracles there). But Mawyer and other critics suspect the 34 acre village is a radical Islamic training ground (in what? innovation and deviation?).

The new film, “Islam Rising:Geert Wilders’ Warning to the West,” focuses on purported gains radical Islam has made in Europe . Wilders is a Dutch parliament member being prosecuted for alleged hate speech for his criticism of Islam.

Mawyer said Christian Action Network is trying to arrange of "Islam Rising” and “HomeGrown Jihad” in York . At the event, he hopes to debate York County Sheriff Bruce Bryant, who says law enforcement has found no signs of criminal activity at Islamville.

Ali Rashid, an Islamville elder, also declined to comment on the group’s promotional efforts. He and other Gilani followers have repeatedly denied ties to terrorism and denounced the Christian Action Networks’ claims as lies. (from the Post and Courier)

While Islamville is not from the mainstream group of Muslims in North and South Carolina who cooperate with the Carolina Islamic Council, Muslims by and large have another reason to be offended by the brazen attempt by the Christian Action Network to paint Islam and all Muslims with the broad brush of terrorism. No matter how much good Islam and Muslims have done for society, in the past, present, and future, there still remains that crusade mentality that wants to pick a fight. But as Muslims, we need not be drawn into the spider’s web of emotional fodder, because these actions by this group are no more than what Allaah Almighty has said will happen when the Light of Islam spreads, and the disbelievers rise against it’s message. In the Qur’aan, Allaah has said:

“They attempt to put out the light of Allaah with their mouths, but Allaah intends that His Light will be illuminated, grow brighter, even though the disbelievers, they detest it.”(As-saff, 8)

So, like the many anti-Islam and Islamophobic campaigns that continue to plague the horizon of the 21^st century, Muslims must not let such negative perceptions or attacks provoke us to anything more than to the noble da’wah ilaa llaah/invitation to Allaah that is required of each and everyone of us by our Rabbil ‘aalameen, and which we have the full freedom to do in this country of purported “freedom of religion.” submitted by Imam Mutahhir Sabree
