Was Mary "sister of Aarron or Aharon" or Imran?

"There is a Christian website attacking Islam - they claim there is a mistake in Quran, about Mary being the "sister of Aarron or Aharon" but that was 1,400 years difference between them. What do you say about that?"

Answer:

We Muslims love Mary, the blessed mother of our prophet Esa (Jesus) who was a miracle birth, the Spirit and the Word of God and the promised Messiah, may peace be upon them both, ameen.

We, as believers in the Quran and the teachings of Muhammad, peace be upon him, totally confirm and never deny the holy place in Islam for both of them and especially the purity and sanctity of the blessed Virgin Mary of whom Allah says in Quran, she is the best of women created.

But what about this verse in the chapter called "Mary", in Quran mentioning her being the "sister of Harun"?  (Read more..)

Take a look at this translation of the meanings of Quran to English by M. M.Pickthal of the verse in question:

O sister of Aaron! (the one speaking is someone accusing her of committing fornication and mentioning the very high status of her tribal background - notice the next thing mentioned is her father, who obviously was from the same tribe) Your father was not a wicked man nor was thy mother a harlot.
The verse in Quran talking about Mary being the "sister of Aaron" is talking about Mary being from the tribe of Harun (Aaron) and this is so silly it will make you laugh when you find out how hard someone will try to find a mistake in Quran - at the same time they cannot look at the tremendous errors and mistakes in their own Bible, their own mixed up lives and their own confusion about who is Allah, who is Jesus, who is the Holy Spirit - etc.

Be that as it may, here is our reply to these poor, misguided individuals:

Look to their Bible in the first words of the New Testament and you will see they are trying to look away from their own mistakes and pretend to find mistakes in something that is without mistakes - (read it):

Would anyone like to take the time to actually read - really READ the scriptures of the Quran and the Bible?

Here they are - take a look for yourself and decide which one seems to be from the real God of Abraham, Moses, Daivd, Solomon, John the Baptist and Jesus Christ, and Muhammad, peace and blessings of Almighty God be upon them all:

The Gospel of St. Matthew starts out telling us it is going to present the geneology of Jesus, the son of David, the son of Abraham and so on. Then it continues to give us a long list of sons of sons of sons of sons - all the way through from Abraham to David to the Babylon exile to Joseph - who was the husband of Mary who was the mother of Jesus, peace be upon him.

Now what is wrong with that?

How could it be the geneology of Jesus? The whole point of the miracle birth of Jesus, peace be upon him, (which we do believe in) is that Jesus has no father and as such - has no geneology. Ooops!

Next, it clearly says Jesus is the son of Abraham and the son of David, but it did not want to say he was thhe son of Joseph. Duh! What kind of thinking is that?

Next, compare now the verses in the Gospel of St. Luke, chapter 3, verse 23 to the end of the chapter (verse 38) and see the problem here is it clearly says Jesus is the son of Joseph. A translator later on adds the words (as was supposed) and now they want you to think these words in brackets (as was supposed) were in the Gospel of Luke. What would that mean anyway? Who "supposed" he was the son of Joseph? And why bother to mention that here when it is nowhere else mentioned in the history of the church or in any manuscript? - Another "Duh"!

Continue reading the "son of - the son of - the son of" and will notice immediately, that Joseph (the supposed father) now has a different father himself. (duh?)

Then this geneology takes us back to some of the same people - notice in the Bablyonian times that Zerrubbable and Sheiteil are mentioned as in Matthew, chapter one, but all of a sudden they also have different fathers. Then the lineage takes us back to David, peace be upon him, but by another son of David - is it Solomon? (Matthew says so) or is it Nathan? (Luke seems to think so) - and the biggest mistake of all - in the entire Bible, says:

ADAM IS THE SON OF GOD! (No joke - Read Luke 3:38 for yourself)

Here are the chapters from the Bible in King James Version:

Matthew 1

1The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

2Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;

3And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;

4And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;

5And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;

6And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;

7And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;

8And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;

9And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;

10And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;

11And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:

12And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;

13And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;

14And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;

15And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;

16And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

17So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.

18Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

19Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.

20But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

21And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

22Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

23Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

24Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:

25And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

Now here is the version of the geneology in the Gospel of St. Luke (3:23-38)

23And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

24Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph,

25Which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Amos, which was the son of Naum, which was the son of Esli, which was the son of Nagge,

26Which was the son of Maath, which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Semei, which was the son of Joseph, which was the son of Juda,

27Which was the son of Joanna, which was the son of Rhesa, which was the son of Zorobabel, which was the son of Salathiel, which was the son of Neri,

28Which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Addi, which was the son of Cosam, which was the son of Elmodam, which was the son of Er,

29Which was the son of Jose, which was the son of Eliezer, which was the son of Jorim, which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi,

30Which was the son of Simeon, which was the son of Juda, which was the son of Joseph, which was the son of Jonan, which was the son of Eliakim,

31Which was the son of Melea, which was the son of Menan, which was the son of Mattatha, which was the son of Nathan, which was the son of David,

32Which was the son of Jesse, which was the son of Obed, which was the son of Booz, which was the son of Salmon, which was the son of Naasson,

33Which was the son of Aminadab, which was the son of Aram, which was the son of Esrom, which was the son of Phares, which was the son of Juda,

34Which was the son of Jacob, which was the son of Isaac, which was the son of Abraham, which was the son of Thara, which was the son of Nachor,

35Which was the son of Saruch, which was the son of Ragau, which was the son of Phalec, which was the son of Heber, which was the son of Sala,

36Which was the son of Cainan, which was the son of Arphaxad, which was the son of Sem, which was the son of Noe, which was the son of Lamech,

37Which was the son of Mathusala, which was the son of Enoch, which was the son of Jared, which was the son of Maleleel, which was the son of Cainan,

38Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam - which was the son of God.

Now let us look to the Recitation of Quran - Surah Mariam, Chapter 19:16 to 39:

019.016
Pickthal: And make mention of Mary in the Scripture, when she had withdrawn from her people to a chamber looking East,
019.017
Pickthal: And had chosen seclusion from them. Then We sent unto her Our Spirit and it assumed for her the likeness of a perfect man.
019.018
Pickthal: She said: Lo! I seek refuge in the Beneficent One from thee, if thou art Allah-fearing.
019.019
Pickthal: He said: I am only a messenger of thy Lord, that I may bestow on thee a faultless son.
019.020
Pickthal: She said: How can I have a son when no mortal hath touched me, neither have I been unchaste?
019.021
Pickthal: He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me. And (it will be) that We may make of him a revelation for mankind and a mercy from Us, and it is a thing ordained.
019.022
Pickthal: And she conceived him, and she withdrew with him to a far place.
019.023
Pickthal: And the pangs of childbirth drove her unto the trunk of the palm-tree. She said: Oh, would that I had died ere this and had become a thing of naught, forgotten!
019.024
Pickthal: Then (one) cried unto her from below her, saying: Grieve not! Thy Lord hath placed a rivulet beneath thee,
019.025
Pickthal: And shake the trunk of the palm-tree toward thee, thou wilt cause ripe dates to fall upon thee.
019.026
Pickthal: So eat and drink and be consoled. And if thou meetest any mortal, say: Lo! I have vowed a fast unto the Beneficent, and may not speak this day to any mortal.
019.027
Pickthal: Then she brought him to her own folk, carrying him. They said: O Mary! Thou hast come with an amazing thing.
019.028
Pickthal: O sister of Aaron!
(the one speaking is someone accusing her of committing fornication and mentioning the very high status of her tribal background - notice the next thing mentioned is her father, who obviously was from the same tribe) Your father was not a wicked man nor was thy mother a harlot.
019.029
Pickthal: Then she pointed to him. They said: How can we talk to one who is in the cradle, a young boy?
019.030
Pickthal: He spake: Lo! I am the slave of Allah. He hath given me the Scripture and hath appointed me a Prophet,
019.031
Pickthal: And hath made me blessed wheresoever I may be, and hath enjoined upon me prayer and almsgiving so long as I remain alive,
019.032
Pickthal: And (hath made me) dutiful toward her who bore me, and hath not made me arrogant, unblest.
019.033
Pickthal: Peace on me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive!
019.034
Pickthal: Such was Jesus, son of Mary: (this is) a statement of the truth concerning which they doubt.
019.035
Pickthal: It befitteth not (the Majesty of) Allah that He should take unto Himself a son. Glory be to Him! When He decreeth a thing, He saith unto it only: Be! and it is.
19:36
Pickthal: And lo! Allah is my Lord and your Lord. So serve Him. That is the right path.
019.037
Pickthal: The sects among them differ: but woe unto the disbelievers from the meeting of an awful Day.
019.038
Pickthal: See and hear them on the Day they come unto Us! yet the evil-doers are to-day in error manifest.
019.039
Pickthal: And warn them of the Day of anguish when the case hath been decided. Now they are in a state of carelessness, and they believe not.
