Love Slaves in Islam?

What Does Islam Say About CONCUBINES?

Some people are concerned over the status of women in Islam. Even though Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world today with women coming into Islam four to one over the men.

Does Islam allow concubines (often defined as love slaves) and salvery?

re: concubines

This is something established before the Bible was ever written and is considered by Old Testament scholars to be a type of wife (see: Hagar in Genesis), although I am not sure if they would have had the full rights and status of a regular wife. The Bible has stories of kings, prophets and ordinary men having many wives and also concubines and slaves.

The Quran on the other hand, shows disapproval of slavery and owning people and shows the rewards for freeing slaves and giving them their rights. Islam is also strong on the subject of rights. Allah's rights, the Quran's rights, human rights, children's rights, parent's rights, women's rights and even enemies rights are all spelled out clearly in Islam. For sure having slaves is not encouraged but rather discouraged and freeing them means a way to salvation in Islam.

The role of the women in Islam is also not the same as the women in the Bible, or in other religions. Women are given full and complete freedom by Allah in the Quran over 1,400 years ago. Only humans are trying to make people become slaves to them, whereas, Allah wants people to only be servants to Him, especially in worship.

We must always consider the rights of others over our own needs and desires as the Quran teaches us.
