what to say after prayers

'Athkar' After Salat
(from Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

1. After Finishing the Salat (after Taslim)

Say three times:

Astaghfirullah“I seek forgiveness from Allah.”

📖 Sahih Muslim (597)

Then say once:

“O Allah, You are Peace, and from You comes peace; blessed are You, O Owner of Majesty and Honor.”

📖 Sahih Muslim (591)

2. Say once:

“None has the right to be worshiped except Allah alone, without partner. His is the dominion, His is the praise, and He has power over all things.”

📖 Sahih Muslim (594)

3. Say:

Subḥan Allah  –      33 times

The phrase “Subhana Lah” (سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ) means:

“Glory be to Allah” or “Allah is free from any imperfection.”

The Arabic root س-ب-ح (s-b-h), carries the meaning of declaring something pure, far above any fault or imperfection.

Muslims often say it after prayer, when remembering Allah, or upon seeing something amazing — to acknowledge Allah’s perfection and greatness.

Al-Hamdu Lillah – 33 times

Alhamdulillah (ٱلْـحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ) means:

“All praise and thanks belong to Allah.”

It expresses gratitude, recognition, and love — acknowledging that every blessing, success, and goodness comes only from Allah.

It combines praise (ḥamd) for who Allah is and thanks (shukr) for what He gives.

Allahu Akbar –    34 times

Allahu Akbar (اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ) means: “Allah is the Greatest.”

It declares nothing is greater than Allah — not in power, knowledge, mercy, or authority.  You can say it during prayer, in times of joy or distress, and to remind the heart Allah is above all things.

🕊️ (If you do 33 of each, then finish with:)

📖 Sahih Muslim (597)

4. Recite Ayat al-Kursi

(ReciteQuran.com/2:255)

“Whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi after each obligatory salat, nothing prevents him from entering Paradise except death.

📖 An-Nasa’i (992) Sahih

5. Recite:

Surah Al-Ikhlās (112)

(ReciteQuran.com/112)

Surah Al-Falaq (113)

(ReciteQuran.com/113)

Surah An-Nās (114)

(ReciteQuran.com/114)

> 1 time after each salat <

> 3 times after Fajr & Maghrib <

📖 Tirmidhi (2903), Abu Dawud (1523)

6. After Fajr and Maghrib only:

Alla-humma ajirni min an-nar

“O Allah, protect me from the Fire.”   — seven times

📖 Abu Dawud (5079)

7. Optional but Authentic Supplication:

Allahumma a‘inni ‘ala thikrika wa shukrika wa husni ibadatik

“O Allah, help me remember You, thank You, and worship You in the best way.”

📖 Abu Dawud (1522), Sahih Muslim (684)
