My First Days in Islam!

When I accepted Islam back in 1991, I thought the Muslims here in the U.S. knew all about Islam and they could talk to anyone about it.

I believed they must all know more than me. Heck, I wanted to learn from them.

I told the Imam, “You should make a playground, like McDonald’s, for the kids. Families will come, and people will notice your Masjid.”

One of the brothers was always talking, so when a lady came up to him with questions, he turned to me and said, “This man will tell you all about Islam” and he pointed right at me.

Huh? What? This is when I realized — many Muslims were not sharing Islam. In fact, some were hiding it.

For me, this was strange. Before Islam, I preached Christianity to anyone who would listen. Now, with Quran I thought Muslims should be even more active than Christians to share the message of Almighty God.

Some brothers invited me to come with them up to Oklahoma with them for the weekend to give “Dawah”.

A big sheikh in Saudi told us it was OK. He said if I really understand God is really One, no problem.

Those first months, I learned about Islam. Allah gave me double doses of everything, even how to call to Islam.

“And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allah, does righteousness, and says, ‘Indeed, I am of the Muslims.’”
