celebrating

Common sense:

Who did the most effort when we were born? It wasn't us.
We don't even remember it. Right?

Our mothers were the ones who carried us for nine months,
then went thought the pain of giving birth to us. Right?

What did we do to celebrate?

If find one day in the year to serve our parents better . . .
We are not serving them the best on those other days.
📜 From the Hadith

Arabic (from Sunan Abi Dawud 1134): Anas ibn Malik (RA) said:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Madinah, and saw the people had two days of celebration and amusment.

He ﷺ said: “What are these two days?”

They replied: “We used to have amused celebration in them during the time of Jahiliyyah.”

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
👉 Indeed, Allah has replaced them for you with what is better: the Day of al-Adhah and the Day of al-Fiṭr.”

📌 Meaning

  • Islam replaced pre-Islamic festivals with only two official celebrations:

    1. Eid al Fiṭr (after Ramaḍān).

    2. Eid al Adha (with sacrifice).

  • This hadith is a key proof against introducing new annual celebrations (like birthdays or other “Eids”) that were not part of the Sunnah.

Warning For Any Innovation

Sunan Abi Dawud 4607, Jami al-Tirmidhī #2676:

“Beware of newly invented matters (in religion), for every innovation (bidah) is misguidance.”
Authentic – Reported in Abi Dawud, al-Tirmidhī and others.

From Prophet'sﷺ Last Sermon

This was the Prophet’s ﷺ regular khutbah introduction (recorded in Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Nasai):

“The best speech is the Book of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad ﷺ.
The worst of matters are those newly introduced, and every innovation (bidʿah) is misguidance.”

📌 Scholarly Explanation

  • Ibn Rajab al-Ḥanbalī (Jami Al Ulum wal Hikam):

“This hadith is from the greatest principles of Islam. It is like a scale for all actions, just as the hadith ‘Actions are but by intentions’ is the scale for inward states.”

  • Ibn Taymiyyah:

“Bidʿah in religion means: worship not legislated by Allah, nor practiced by the Prophet ﷺ or his Companions.”

✅ Key Point

The Prophet ﷺ did not condemn worldly inventions (like technology, clothes, tools). He specifically warned about innovations in religion — adding rituals, celebrations, or acts of worship not taught by Allah or His Messenger ﷺ.
