Former military head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, yesterday supported the call for dialogue by former president Olusegun Obasanjo and former military president Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida over the growing state of insecurity in the country.
The two leaders had in a joint statement last week Monday said it was also worrisome for them that the growing insecurity has led to cynicism among Nigerians and called for scaling up of efforts to confront the security challenges.
Abdulsalami expressed his support when he received an award from Niger President Issoufou Mahamadou. Abdulsalami who spoke with BBC Hausa service after receiving the award, said the call was imperative especially with the growing insecurity.
“Without peace there is no development,” he said and called on politicians to always think of how to maintain peace and develop the country.
