assalamo alaikum - dear sir,
i heard somewhere you can protect yourself from magic and jinns, if you do something called 'ruqaya'.

Could you please tell me what is 'ruqayah' and what is the way for doing it?

i really urgently need to know.

Question: Does ruqyah work against magic and evil?

Answer: Bismillah, Al Hamdulillah was salat was salam ala Rasoolullah.

Yes. This is exactly what Allah Subhannah wa Ta'ala and our prophet, peace be upon him, prescribed for such cases.

We find it mentioned in Quran and in the sunnah for a person to read Quran for protection from the jinn and magic.

The surahs (chapters) to be recited for protection from evil are mentioned in the hadith (narrations from our prophet, peace be upon him).

Some of them to be rectited include the following:

• • Surah Fatihah (first one)
  • Surah Al Ikhlaas (112)
  • Surah Al Falqa (113)
  • Surah An Naas (114)
  • Ayatul Kursi (2:255)

These are the primary ones used by the prophet, peace be upon him.

The proper method is:

• Hold the hands up in front of the face
• Recite Quran verses into the hands
• Wipe the hands over the entire body.

Some more tips for protection of Allah:

• Pray to Allah with all sincerity and seek refuge with Allah from this type of evil
• Stay away from evil things & evil people who do not try to please Allah
• Avoid pictures hanging in your house, get rid of any statues or figurines or dolls or images of humans or animals
• Do not listen to musical instruments and such things
• Stay away from things that take your mind away from the devotion to Allah
• Stay close to people who love Allah and have good and sound knowledge about true beliefs in Islam
• Do not hang out with people of the deviant groups (click for details)
• Stay on the main path
• Stay close to Allah

He will protect you if you are sincere. Everything is with Allah for the outcome.
