Question: Regarding meat(chicken, beef) available in the market(I live in Canada). I want to know whether it is permissible to eat or not?
_____ Answer: Any meat that falls within the limitations of Allah specified in the Quran and sunnah, is considered halal (permissible). Please refer to Surah ma'idah (5:3) and also the verse in (5:6). The problem I have encountered is that we cannot be sure who actually did the slaughtering of the animal. If however, you are satisfied the animal was slaughtered by a Jew, Christian or Muslim according to the way of their particular faith and the name of Allah was mentioned at the time of slaughter, then it should be halal, inshallah. If you are not sure, then I suggest you verify with the meat department where you shop and ask them for more details about the slaughter of their meat and available alternatives. Incidentally, there are many substitutes available, such as veggie burgers, bean sprout substitutes, etc. We have another more indepth article about "halal meats & eating out": http://www.islamnewsroom.com/content/view/36/27/ Allah has All Knowledge. Any good is from Allah & the mistakes were from myself. Please pray for me and ask Allah to Forgive me for any mistakes. May Allah guide all of us to His Truth, ameen.
